Monthly Favourites March 2013

Being Human; Diptyque Baies; Jo Malone Lime, Basil & Mandarin; Maybelline The Falsies Mascara; Revlon Lip Butter; Soap & Glory Lid Stuff; Boots Botanics Eye Cream; Nars Blush; Nars Bronzer
Boots Botanics 'Radiant Youth' Eye Cream (£6.99).  This month the skin around my eyes has been pretty dry so I've been using this to try and combat it. I moisturise daily but only use eye cream every other day as my eyelids can get pretty oily but have upped it to daily this month and it's done wonders. I really recommend this as it's quite light but really moisturising.

Diptyque Baies Mini Candle (£20). I'm a big candle fan, I love sitting in my room with a good movie on and a candle burning. I've lusted after a Diptyque candle for quite a long time and finally settled on Baies. It's a mixture of rose and blackcurrent leaves and just gorgeous. I'm not normally a fan of rose scents but this one isn't over powering and calmed by the blackcurrent leaves. I have my eye on Viollete next - it smells like parma violets!
Jo Malone Lime Basil & Mandarin (£76). Jo Malone's signature scent - a mix of peppery basil which cuts through the sharp, summery smell of limes. I got this for Christmas but have been wearing it lots this month. A perfect fragrance for Spring/Summer and a lovely alternative to Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb which is my normal everyday scent.
Nars Blush in Orgasm (£21.50). This is a one of those products that gets a lot of coverage in the blogosphere and it is totally justified. It's bright pink, with a lot of gold shimmer running though it. If you use this you really don't need highlighter so it is a one stop blush - great for days when you've slept it! Nars blushes are great quality and worth every penny! I highly recommend!
Nars Bronzer in Laguna (£24). Another renowned product in the beauty world and rightly so! I had a bit of fake tan on for half of this month and I never put it on my face so relied on this to bronze me up a bit. I use this daily for contour and it is definitely a holy grail item for me! Everyone needs one of these in their make up bags!
Maybelline The Falsies Flared (£7.99). After singing the praises of Rimmel Extra wow mascara here I went totally back to my mascara whore ways and bought this and I am so glad I did! It has a curved, bristle brush and is very black. You can build it up and up without it going clumpy at all! It is drying up a tad so I am going to try the Black Drama one next.
Soap & Glory Lid Stuff in What's Nude (£10). I bought this ages ago and go through phases of loving it. All the shades are matte bar one which has a light shimmer. It's great for everyday wear and really easy to apply. The eyeshadows are so soft and really pigmented.  I think this is a total bargain as the quality is on a par with mac and this quad would cost over £40 there! The packaging is great too as it is super compact!
Revlon Lip Butter in Sweet Tart (£7.99). Everyone and their Granny should have one of these. This shade is Sweet Tart and is a really soft pink (look up for it popping up in a post next week!). Perfect for Spring, light but pigmented, nourishing but looks nice - it's perfect! I bought Tutti-Frutti today which is an orange shade and I think would be great for the coming months! All round perfect product which is worth every penny!

Being Human. Being Human is my favourite show ever. (Aside from perhaps Doctor Who but who doesn't love Doctor Who?!). This programme (in case you don't know) is about a werewolf, a vampire and a ghost living together in a house and trying to 'be human' - clever huh? It is nothing like twilight however, it is truly different to anything in the supernatural drama genre. It has one of my favourite actors in it, Russell Tovey, and I would recommend it to anyone! There is an American version but I have no interest in it at all, after seeing the way they 're-imagined' Life On Mars I have steered clear of American versions of British shows! American tv shows are great, British tv shows are great and lets leave it at that! (Don't even get me started on Skins!!). The 5th series of Being Human ended a couple of weeks ago and was the last ever series.I'm not going to lie, I cried at the end. Anyway I bought series 1-4 boxset about a month ago and have pre-ordered the 5th. If you are in the market for a new tv show to get your teeth into I can't recommend this more! It has everything - tears, laughs, heart stopping moments and very hot vampires and werewolves! GO BUY IT NOW!

That's all my monthly favourites for March. This has taken me ages to write because I just signed up for netflix and have Ashes to Ashes open on one tab and blogger in the other! Reminded slightly of revising for my exams at school! Such a good student *ahem*! We all did it!

What's your favourites for this month? What's you favourite TV show?

*SIDENOTE - Boots have a 3 for 2 on at the moment!!! GO GO GO!!*

Models Own Order vs Very Naughty Puppy!!

L-R: Beach Party, Hedonist, Balearic Cool, Pink Punch,Blueberry Muffin

On Monday my friend Hollie (who has a blog which is AMAZING!!) retweeted a tweet from Models Own offering a deal on their online shop where if you buy 4 nail polishes you get 1 free - 10 minutes and £20 later here I am. I totally blame you for this Hollie!
I got home on Wednesday after a really long day to find my sister sitting on the stairs surrounded by 4 of these nail polishes
looking very angry. Turns out my puppy (who turns one today!)
took it upon himself to rip open my parcel and have a good chew of my lovely new nail polishes - grrrrr.
I ordered a back up of my favourite nails polish which is the bright orange shown here but the bottle of that one was cracked so I have shown the one I already have.
I like all these shades a lot. The two coraly ones confuse me though. One is from the neon collection and was a bright coral on the website. It says on the lid it is a matte finish and to apply gloss for a shiny finish. The other coral one was from the Headkandi collection and was a lot more red on the website but is almost identical to the neon one. They have identical finishes (even though the Headkandi one doesn't mention a matte finish at all! I assumed it would be similar to the orange one but definitely not!). The neon one is slightly more pink so it's not a big deal but I think they should be clearer about the finishes on the website.
The blue Headkandi one takes a good 3 coats to reach full opacity but when it does it's lovely! It reminds me of Topshop Pool Party which is an old favourite of mine. It has a gloss finish and dries super fast (as do all of these indecently).
The light lavender blue nail polish is so cool! When I saw they were selling scented nail polishes I didn't think they would be much cop but the colour is amazing, the formula is incredible and it actually smells like blueberry when it dries!! AMAZING! How do they so that?! My mind is officially blown,

So that concludes my Models Own nail polish order. I apologise for the state of the state of the packaging in the pictures, I thought about taking pictures of the website but, to be honest, I couldn't really be bothered.

I have forgiven the puppy for his appalling behaviour! I think he has learnt his lesson though - he had orange teeth 2 days!! I have included a picture of Oscar in his party hat because we are totally going to have a party tonight! Happy 1st Birthday Oscy!!

Do you own any Models Own nail polishes? Have your pets ever ate your post?

Face of the Day #1 Urban Decay Naked Palette

Urban Decay Naked Palette: I used: Virgin, Sin, Naked, Darkhorse, Toasted, Hustle (L-R 1, 2, 3, 8, 9, 10)

Today I had a good hour or so to get ready and decided to use my much loved, but often neglected, Naked Palette from Urban Decay.
The look turned out really well so I took a few photos for a blog post.

My base make up was really simple, Nars Oil Free Pro Prime,Bobbie Brown Corrector in Porcelain Peach, Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation in Wheat, Collection 2000 Lasting Perfection Concealer in shade 2. Then Mac Studio Fix in NW15 buffed over the foundation once it had settled into the skin, Nars Laguna Bronzer to contour and warm up my face, Nars Orgasm Blush over my cheeks, concentrating on the cheekbones and a touch of Mac Soft and Gentle MSF down the centre of my nose to slim it down a bit. For eyebrows I used my rimmel eyebrow pencil in dark brown and a bit of Urban Decay brow gel to set them.

Now for the whole point of this post - the eye make up.
To prep my lids I popped a bit of Nars eyeshadow primer all over my eyelids. That primer is amazing - it really makes my eye make up last all day!
I swept 'Virgin' all over the lid to even out the colour and provide a base. I then applied 'Sin' all over the top and worked it up to just above my crease. I applied 'Toasted' from the outside of my lid to about two thirds in to allow the light shimmery mix of virgin and sin to brighten up the inner corner.
I then put 'Hustle' in the outer half (maybe a little bit less than half), it wasn't quite dark enough for me so I popped a little Darkhorse in the outer corner and blended it all together.
I then blended Naked through my crease to add a bit of definition.
I lined my upper lashline with L'oreal Super Liner and winged it out into a gentle flick.
Add Rimmel Scaneleyes Eyeliner in Black along the upper waterline and just halfway along the lower waterline.

I curled my eyelashes with my Models Own eyelash curlers (which are amazing and super super cheap!) and applied plenty of Maybelline 'The Falsies' Mascara (after my post swearing allegiance to Rimmel Extra WOW I went and bought this - once a mascara whore always a mascara whore). The Maybelline one is amazing though and I will definitely re-purchase when it dries up! I think I applied 3 or 4 coats to get lots of impact. I used my Clinique Bottom Lash mascara on the bottom.
Add a slick of Mac Creme Cup and you're done!

I think this look is great for everyday and it isn't too much but looks like you've made a bit of effort and not just chucked on the first thing that came to hand because you slept through your alarm and had precisely 4 and a half minutes to get ready - we've all been there!

Do you have the Urban Decay Naked Palette? What's your favourite look to create with it?

P.s. I took a lot of photos to get the two above. I've included two of the best rejects. As soon as a camera is pulled out I can't help but pull a silly face - it's a serious problem!! Also just noticed I have earphones in, I am nothing if not professional *ahem*

Top 5 Spring Everyday Lipsticks

L-R MAC Creme Cup, Chanel Boy, Revlon Sweet Tart,
Topshop Whimsical, Rimmel Kate Moss 101

L-R MAC Creme Cup, Chanel Boy, Revlon Sweet Tart, Topshop Whimsical, Rimmel Kate Moss 101
Spring has to arrive soon! I am sitting here in a bobble hat - inside! The weather has been so cold recently and I just can't stand it anymore! By thinking about favourite Spring lipsticks maybe we can trick ourselves into thinking it's sunny? Well it's worth a try..

I'm a bit of a lipstick fiend, I am always trying out new brands, formulas and colours - happy lips, sad bank balance.
In my head every time Spring come round I imagine myself floating about in pretty dresses with perfect hair, a tinted moisturiser and a pretty pink lip.
Top-Bottom: MAC Creme Cup, Chanel Boy, Revlon
Sweet Tart, Topshop Whimsical, Rimmel
Kate Moss 101
This NEVER happens. (1) I don't like my legs when they are free of black tights so light floaty dresses are a no no. (2) my hair rarely looks perfect and when it does it's only ever at night - why is that?! (3) Due to my acne scarring I always wear full coverage make up, even on roasting hot days (or day if you live in Scotland).
So the only thing I can really achieve is the pretty pink lip. I'm not a lipgloss girl at all! Having hair down to your belly button tends to mean just by thinking lipgloss you get about 100 hours stuck on your face - nice. (Saying that I do have my eye on the Clarins Instant Light Natural Lip Perfector..).
I do like a Spring lipstick though so these are my top 5!
First up, a veritable classic - Mac Creme Cup. If you don't have this buy it! It's the best everyday shade ever! You can see how much I have used it in the main picture. Its a blue toned, light pink. If you apply too much it can look a little, what I like to call, Drag Queen so be careful! It's cremesheen so super easy to just whack on. Brilliant - I love.
Next up my super posh lipstick Chanel Boy, I feel like a proper grown up when I use this. It's super sheer so I kind of use this in place of a lipgloss if I want something a bit lighter. It's a light pink colour, and again don't build it up too much as it goes a bit strange colour-wise if you do. This is very luxurious so if your looking to treat yourself this could be the one! It also smells INCREDIBLE, all Chanel beauty products do! Damn you Chanel luring me in with your beautiful packaging and amazing smells!!
Next up the super affordable but amazing quality of the Revlon Lip Butters. My favourite is Sweet Tart but I also have my eye on Tutti-Frutti - I do love orange lips in Summer! The product is really creamy and glides on smoothly but still has incredible pigmentation, if you don't have one of these you should seriously consider picking one up! They are a bargain at under a tenner!
I have loved Topshop Whimsical for a long time. A light fluorescenty-orangey-coral (my descriptions are just getting better and better!). I went through a stage of wearing it everyday last Summer. I think it's a bit different from pink which is nice and is super easy to apply (as are all Topshop lipsticks!), I love the formula! It smells amazing too! I'm a bit funny about smells, if I don't like a smell I can't have it anywhere near me, especially right under my nose! This smells lovely though! If someone asks me to recommend a good lipstick I always say this!
Last but not least the newest off all these Rimmel Kate Moss lipstick from the new Matte collection in shade 101. I like matte lips - I think they can look really chic if worn correctly. Its a light pink with a slight blue tone, it's really flattering on me and looks really sharp paired with lip liner. It's the cheapest of all three but I love it just as much!

Creme Cup (I call this
picture 'Jowls')
Boy (This one is called
'One fat cheek')
Sweet Tart (This is called
'Hey Meg, where's your
forehead?!)

Whimsical (This is one
is called 'One fat cheek:
The Sequal)
101 (I named this merely
NOSE.)
Here's some truly awful pictures of me. Look at the last one - my nose is bigger than the moon urgh. I was super tired and couldn't be bothered moving to a place with good lighting.
I thought it was important to show what each looked like on me though but I do apologise for ugly mug!!

What lip products are you loving at the moment? Do you give pictures of yourself titles as well or is that just me?

Vintage Fair Experience and Haul

Blue and pink scarf & Leaf print scarf 2 for a £5, Mirror - £5, Small china pot £2, Egyptian ring (below) £1

This post isn't beauty related so I wasn't sure whether or not to do a blog post about it but thought the stuff I got was so lovely I really wanted to share it! Today I went with my Sister to a vintage fair in the centre of Edinburgh. It's a travelling fair so I will link the website below so you can check it out too! It was £2 for entry but only £1 if you have a student card.

It was super busy in the fair! We got their about an hour after it opened and it was absolutely packed! There was all different stalls most selling vintage clothing but two at the back selling vintage plates, bowls, etc, a couple along the back selling a mixture of handmade and vintage jewllery and one selling soap in the shape of cakes, weirdly.

My style is pretty smart, I wear dark trousers with a mixture of pretty tops and fitted jackets all the time (unless I'm kicking about at home in that case it's cottons and sweatshirts all the way!!). My sister, however always dresses in pretty little dresses and skirts and has a pretty vintagey feel to her outfits (we are total opposites in every way but get on so well!). So she was bound to enjoy the fair a lot more than me!

Anyway I'm rambling. Long story short she got a cute skirt, 2 scarves and a necklace and I got all this! My favourite thing I got was the cute little china pot! It says on the bottom 'Fine Bone China Made in Britain'. I like to imagine a woman in the 1970's kept her special earrings in it. I gave it a good clean and plan on keeping my little studs in there. The scarves were a good find, there was a massive basket full of them tucked under a rail of clothing. We raked through them  and found two each, mine are a cerise pink and dark blue one with ropes and tassels and the green one has gold thread running through it with satin panels and a leafy pattern. They all smell a bit old so we're gonna give them a good going in the washing machine. I just thought the mirror was really cute and handy to keep in my bag. The ring was a great find and at only a pound you can't really go wrong! It's one of those rings you can change the size of at the back but I quite like it above the knuckle, I have a few above knuckle rings but this is a bit different from anything I've seen on the high street at the moment.

One stall sold vintage make up cases and they were amazing but pretty expensive! I kind of wish I had bought one now but because I already got the mirror I couldn't justify it!

All in all not a bad little haul. I went in with a totally open mind but honestly thought I wouldn't find anything but I was actually quite pleased with my finds.

It was freezing cold  but it's been a really lovely day! Don't you just love a sister day?

The vintage fair we went to I found through this site - http://www.judysvintagefair.co.uk/
My sister is going to make a blog and do a post on what she got today so I'll link that when she does.

Spring Wish List

I have been really good recently with regards to spending more money than I should on beauty products. The problem with that is that I get 'what I like to call' withdrawal symptoms (name that TV show!).
Hopefully I'll be going shopping with my friend from school, Hollie, who is just as obsessed with all things beauty as me and I have a mental wish list of all the things I want to buy and thought I would pop it all into a blog post!

Bioderma Sebium £9.99 from escentual.com.
Bioderma is finally in the UK! *does celebration dance* I didn't get this when it first landed in the UK because I wanted to do a bit of research and make sure I know what I'm buying because it's not cheap! I finally decided to bite the bullet and get it. I have 'bought' it but it won't be dispatched for a week or so as it is currently out of stock - it's so tough waiting! I chose the Sebium one for oily skin so hopefully it will help control my super oily skin!
Nails Inc Baker Street - £11 (currently £8.69 on Beauty Bay)
I have been lusting after this for a good year or so - ever since I heard Beyonce was a fan (I want to be Beyonce). A bright cobalt blue. I'm a fan of Nails Inc nail polishes as a whole so can't wait to get my mitts on this one! I'm not sure I'm gonna get everything on this list but I definitely want this!
Estee Lauder Eyeshadow Duo in Vanilla Pods - £23 Debenhams
This is pricey - there is no getting away from it but I just think the packaging and quality of the product is amazing (from the hundreds of times I swatched it anyway!). I have heard a few bloggers talk about the same duo but in Raisins but I much prefer this one - I think it's much more wearable. Love it but I just don't know if I can justify it given how many neutral eyeshadows I have.
OPI Nail Envy Base Coat - £18.65 Boots
I really want this and have done for ages but there is a part of me that just can't bring myself to spend nearly £20 on a base coat. It has got incredible reviews and I've heard all the stories about people who had bendy, peeling, horrible nails like mine and this has fixed them right up but still I keep putting off buying it. Maybe one day I'll bite the bullet and pick this up.
Real Techniques Expert Face Brush - £9.99 Boots
I love love love real techniques brushes and am building up quite the collection. I think this is going to be the next one to join the family - it looks like it would be quite versatile and I know I will get my moneys worth from it. This is another one that I will definitely pick up!
YSL Rouge Volupte Shine Lipstick Shade 13 - £24 House of Fraser
Another one of those that I have wanted for ages but just can't justify the price. However, with spring on the way and this being a sheeny shiney sheer lipstick I think it's time I bought it. I don't like lipgloss at all so I need this for Spring...right?
Topshop cream blush in 'Head Over Heels' - £6 Topshop
I have never tried a cream blush before (due to oily skin grrr) but my friend Hollie (who I will hopefully be going shopping with soon!) says these are amazing and I totally trust her opinion so this has been added to my wishlist. I think it would apply really well with the brush mentioned above and at only £6 it's a total bargain!!
Urban Decay De Slick Setting Spray - £19.50 Beauty Bay
I have nearly ran out of Mac Fix+ and always felt like it never did very much but I have heard brilliant things about this. It is really expensive but as I have all but finished the mac one I know I will get use from it. I also think it will make the cream blush (above) really come into it's own and stop it sliding off my face which is why I haven't tried one yet.  I can see a Beauty Bay order on the horizon..

Lots and lots of wool!
My sister recently taught me how to crochet and I am a little bit addicted! I plan on buying lots of balls of wall and crocheting a lot of granny squares for a blanket! Crocheting might not be cool but it is super fun!!

So that's everything I have my eye on at the moment! Expect a haul post coming soon! Do you have your eye on anything at the moment?

Top 5 Spring Nail Polishes

L-R: Essie Absolutely Shore, Barry M Gelly Hi-Shine Grapefruit, Essie Mint Candy Apple, Barry M Berry I/C, Topshop Pool Party

I love that day when you wake up and have that feeling that Spring has sprung! Well I got that feeling today and to celebrate decided to blog about my favourite Spring nail polishes!

Essie Absolutely Shore. Fairly new to my nail polish stocks but already well loved. A white based green, super simple and easy to wear, only available online so has the poopy essie brush so you need to be a bit more precise when applying but it is so worth it!!
Barry M Gelly Hi-Shine Grapefruit. A bright pink that really does dry to a high shine finish. I have loved Barry M  for years and years so was excited when I saw this new range and went to boots straight away to buy one and this is what I chose. It has sat unloved for a couple of months but I have totally fallen back in love with this one. Brilliant colour, brilliant consistency, brilliant price! What more do you need?!
Essie Mint Candy Apple. How could I do a post on spring nail shades and not include Mint Candy Apple?! My all time favourite polish ever and a firm favourite in the blogoshpere, I just love it! It's available in boots and superdrug as well as online so I would say get it instore if you can to get the brilliant new brush! AMAZING shade all year round but in spring it just can't be topped. If this list had a winner this would be it!
Barry M Berry Ice Cream. Something a bit different, a pale lilac. I prefer this if I have a bit of a tan (living in Scotland it tends to be fake!) than when I'm pale as I feel it can wash me out a bit but when I'm tanned it's just beautiful. A simple purple that's cheap and cheerful - bloomin love it!!
Topshop Pool Party. I got this in a trio for Christmas a couple of years ago and I always forget about it by August and re-discover in about March. A turquoise bluey/greeny shade that's super wearable and easy to just throw on. Great consistency, considering it's a couple years old it really is as good as new! I always mean to pick up a couple more topshop nail polishes but never end up doing it but I think I'm gonna hop foot it over to the topshop website right now and order some more!!
What nail polishes do you like wearing in Spring?

Illamasqua Pure Pigment 'BEGUILE'

Illamasqua Pure Pigment in 'Beguile'

I mentioned in the review of Nars Hungry Heart that when I went to Manchester I bought an Illamasqua pigment. I was torn between 'Beguile' and 'Static' but eventually settled on 'Beguile'. I have seen Louise from Sprinkle of Glitter rave about this on her YouTube channel and Blog so decided to trust her opinion as her advice hasn't be wrong in the 18 months I've been following her blog!!
She proved to be right again and I am in LOVE with this pigment!! 'Static' was a lot more pink based and while it was beautiful I thought this would be a lot more wearable.
It's a finely milled glitter pigment with a mint green glitter and light pink glitter running through it! It's beautiful dusted over an eyeshadow, lightly applied over the lid or built up to a very opaque glittery eye for a night out.
It's perfect for an inner corner highlight, a shimmering browbone highlight or even, if you're feeling brave, a cheekbone highlight!!

It's not easy to store. I used to keep it in my make up bag but every time I opened it there was a bit of glitter over everything. In particular Nars packaging. It seems to be a magnet for glitter and grime!!
All in all, I would say it's love. I'm still considering getting 'Static' because I did really like it! A great product, very multi-functional. It's not cheap at £15.50 but there really is nothing this beautiful on the high street. I would 100% recommend this to anyone and will hopefully get some more soon!
