Weekend Shopping in Edinburgh April 2013

I spent too much money..
..way too much..

..but how could anyone resist this?!
Surprisingly nice shot

I was waiting for Hollie and took about 30 pictures of town

Glasses in Primark (and a hideous face from me)
I went shopping in Edinburgh at the end of April and I can't believe it's nearly the end of May!
I have been meaning to do this post for ages but other things jumped the queue (RiRi Woo for one!).
I had such a great weekend! On the Saturday I went into town with my sister, Hattie, and mum while my dad went and got a tattoo (of a ventolin molecule - I wonder where I get my strange from?!). Hattie had to get a dress for a wedding so we had a mooch round Edinburgh. The weather was fab so it was a great day!

The next day I hopped back on the train to meet my friend Hollie (who's blog you should definitely read!). Our friendship has quite a cute story, we were in the same year at school and had the same friends but never really got to know each other (until we put together our yearbook which is still the shit, Hollie!) and really got on. Anyway, we left school but still followed each other on twitter. We both loved YouTube and bloggers and made our blogs around the same time and we got back in touch! Anyway, cute moment over!
So we decided to go shopping together and have a day of talking about nothing but beauty products! Most people don't understand the need to spend half an hour discussing the pros and cons of lipgloss!

Topshop bits
Sleek Blush Palette: Just look at it
Seriously impressive pigment
I actually felt I wasn't too bad spending wise! I did buy a dress (which my mum was so happy about! I hate buying clothes and the last thing she said to me before I went out was 'at least look at the clothes, love'). I haven't got a picture of it because it's in the wash but I bought this one. I really like it, it's super comfy and just easy to wear.
I bought my mumma an eyeshadow duo from Nars because it was her birthday on the 3rd of May.

WOAH supeer bright!

I chose Kuala Lumper which is a rose gold/berry shade duo. I chose it because my mum wears a lot of purply/pink shades a lot and because she has green eyes it looks really pretty. Hollie also has green eyes and said she loves this!
My mumma loved it too so job well done!
Cause I really needed 2...
Love a starbucks
What is that bright thing in the sky?!

A few of the other bits I picked up were:

  • A new raspberry balmi, I had one before and loved it but the lid fell off and I didn't notice till I got back in the car (I keep them on my car keys). I was really upset because I use it literally everyday. It smells amazing and really moisturises my lips. I don't like the new packaging very much (it used to be round) but it does click into place more securely so I guess that's more important!
  • A new Tangle Teezer. I bought an orange one of these last July in London and have used it every day since! I found myself wishing I had one to keep in my bag so I picked up a pink one (I also bought one for my sister!). These are amazing, everyone with hair should have one. This pink one is actually a little bit smaller than my orange one, I bought them both from Space NK, but you can get them from loads of places. I like that it's a bit smaller cause I keep it in my bag but it's a bit strange, I guess.
  • I also bought the Sleek Blush Palette in 'Lace' which I have lusted after since last summer! I like all 3 shades and think it's great value for £10. I wouldn't say they are best quality ever but for £10 for 3 I didn't expect them to be. They can be tricky to blend as they are really, really pigmented. It's best to build it up, little by little to avoid the dreaded 80s cheek! I've put them side by side and the middle, shimmery shade is pretty much an exact dupe for the super famous 'Nars Orgasm'. I would say the Nars one lasts a smidge longer and is ever so slightly easier to work with but if your humming over the Nars one, get the Sleek one instead!
  • The topshop bits and pieces were mentioned here and I think I am going to change my mind on the eyeliner. I does apply well (due to the amazing brush I think) but by about midday it has transferred onto my lid! If you have normal or dry skin go for it but if your oily, like me, it's a definite no go! The eyebrow pencil I still love! The lipstick is a super bright pink (shade 'Brighton Rock') and is the same amazing quality as all of my others, and the colour is great for Summer! The nail polish was a bit of an impulse purchase, I think I will get more wear out of it come Autumn (the shade is 'Varsity').
  • I picked up a Burts Bees lipbalm in pomegranate. I'm actually really disappointed with this. Burts Bees get so hyped up and I thought it was a bit..blah. It wasn't particularly moisturising and I really didn't like the scent! Maybe a different scent would be better.

So that's everything I got over the last weekend in April. Over June I will be on a strict spending ban as I am driving to Gloucester and then onto London!! London is my favourite place I've ever been (although I've not ventured further than Northern France..one day I will go to New York! Sooner rather than later!). I love London so much though, I would love to move there one day. I'm saving my money for my holiday so I'm going to be good!
Also, Hollie and myself are going to start making YouTube videos which is slightly terrifying! I have finally got an iMac so I can edit, etc. and Hollie is going to teach me how to use iMovie so hopefully I will be able to imbed videos into posts which will be cool!

What are you most excited about for Summer?

April Favourites 2013

Waaah it's May?! How? When?! This year is just whizzing past!

There are a few products I have been loving this month and have collected them together to show you!
April 2013 Favorites!

Jo Malone Lime, Basil & Mandarin
I LOVE this scent! I know a lot of people think it's a bit too much when they smell it in the shop but about half an hour after you spritz it on it settles down to a fresh citrusy scent. This was a favourite last month and I think it will be a Summer favourite. I'm wearing it nearly as much as my flowerbomb which I wear all year so it's nice to have a change.
Nars Andy Warhol Self Portrait 2 (LIMITED EDITION)

I bought the Nars Palette last December and have been reluctant to use it because it is so beautiful but I couldn't stand to have it not being shown the love it deserves any longer! I think it's great for everyday: the grey all over the lid, the black lightly smudged into the outer corner and the light silvery grey on the inner corner. LOVE THIS! It's just a shame it doesn't look so beautiful anymore.
Topshop Liner & Real Techniques Fine Liner Brush
I bought this eyeliner and brush really recently so a bit of a cheat but it has totally changed my eyeliner. I get it right every time, I think this is down to the marvelous brush!! The eyeliner isn't great, it transfers onto my lids towards the end of the day and could be blacker but it is so much better than the liquid eyeliner I was using before! I want to try a Bobbi Brown gel eyeliner next I think.
Rimmel Lash Accelerator Mascara
After declaring myself a one mascara woman I caved and have been trying loads again! Bad! This is AMAZING though! The wand is small and thin so you can get all the little hairs and it coats all the hairs in just one swipe! Amazing. (I know the photo is blurry but by this stage I was about to chuck the camera out of the window!)
Rimmel Apocolips in 'Stella'
Next up is the Apocolips in Stella which I love and is a great choice if you want an easy, everyday bright lip. It's so cheap and so easy to wear. I would recommend this to everyone for Spring/Summer, they are so beautiful.
Topshop Brows

When I first heard Topshop were going to be doing eyebrow pencils I got VERY excited (I have an extremely boring life) and when I saw a picture of it and it had a spooly on the end I got even more excited! I bought one and I love it! I convinced my sister and Hollie to buy one too. I like it because it's quite hard (minds out of the gutters) so lasts all day without smudging. It's really cheap too!
Real Techniques Expert Face Brush
Another brush to add to the family, this is like the buffing brush my smaller and an easier shape to work foundation into the skin. I think it's my new favourite brush for foundation. Not much else to say really, it's just amazing!!
Bow Bobbles
I bought these from Accessorize (I think..) about 6 weeks ago and I love them (particularly the rose gold one). I have been wearing my hair in a high ponytail with one of these and it looks really sweet. A simple way of making it look like I have actually made an effort! Yay!
Chanel Rouge Coco Shine in 'Boy'

I bought this last year and it saves me when I need a simple, easy lipstick. It's my alternative to lipgloss (because I don't get along with lipgloss at all) and I really love it in Spring/Summer. It's brilliant. Not cheap but it has lasted ages!

Topshop Lip Products Collection

L-R: Lip Stick in 'Powder Room', Lips in 'Nevada' 'Innocent' and 'Whimsical'
L-R: 'Powder Room' 'Nevada' 'Innocent' 'Whimsical'

I love Topshop make up. When I first heard they were bringing out a range (which was in 2010 by the way! How does time go so fast?!) I was a bit skeptical. Normally when clothing shops bring out make up ranges they are pretty poopy (I'm looking at you H&M, Primark, don't even get me started on you). However, their make up range is incredible! What they lack in colour choice they more than make up for in quality and value for money.

The lipsticks are definitely the standout
winners in the range if you ask me. I have the shades Nevada, a pink toned nude, Innocent, a blue toned bright pink and Whimsical (best name ever!!) which is a peachy coral in a matte finish. I also have one of the 'Lip Sticks' in Powder Room which is a very bright pink.

My favourite by far is Whimsical. I bought it last Summer and wore it pretty much throughout the whole season. It's bright but not too bright, an alternative to pink but still an everyday shade that isn't too out there. I had a look on the Topshop website and it's not there anymore! Having a slight panic it's been discontinued!! Innocent isn't there either. There aren't actually that many shades - Topshop better pull their 3-for-£8 frilly socks up and release (and re-release) some new shades soon!

I love all of these shades: they apply like a dream, have amazing pigmentation and smell amazing! The packaging is lovely when new but after a week or so it's grubby and if you carry it around in your bag the white actually rubs off as shown above!! I can't recommend them enough!

The 'Lip Stick' is okay. It's quite drying and very bright. You can't sheer it out like you would a regular lipstick so you go bright or you home with this one! I actually wanted the Pillow Talk Lips but they didn't have it so I settled for this one, not quite what I wanted but nice enough and great in the Summer with a bit of a tan. This isn't on the website either but they have the same shade in Lip Crayon form.

Topshop 'Lips' are £8 and the 'Lip Sticks' are £7.

Do you love Topshop make up too? What's your favourite Topshop lipstick?

Mini Topshop Beauty Haul

Topshop Glow Highlighter in 'Polish' - £9 Topshop Cream Blush in 'Head Over Heels' - £6

On the same day I went to the vintage fair, see this post for full details. When I was in town I popped into Topshop to pick up the cream blush that my friend Hollie recommended and that I have been eyeing up for ages. I love everything I have ever bought from the topshop make up line so has this latest purchase lived up to my high expectations?

I got it in the shade Head Over Heels which is a gorgeous coral shade. It is a cream to powder blush, I applied a little bit just now over powdered make up and it worked fine although I do think it would look even better over non powdered skin. I think it would last better with a little translucent powder dusted over the top as well, due to my super oily skin!
The colour looks a little scary in the pan but built up in light layers it looks really pretty! I used a real techniques stippling brush to apply it which worked really well. I only popped it on for this post but I really like it. If I really like it no doubt it'll turn up in a favourites post soon.

The highlighter I first spotted a couple of weeks ago and really liked but I thought it was a bit expensive so decided to leave it and decide if I still wanted it and I did! It's sold as a highlighter but when I swatched it in the shop I thought it wouldn't be much cop as a face highlighter but would be a really pretty inner corner highlight for my eyes. However, when I got it home I thought I would try it on my cheekbones and good grief it looked amazing!! Not too shimmery, not too shiny not too gold - it's perfect! When I put it on my cheeks I used the tiniest amount, warmed it between my fingers and applied it lightly and blended it with my fingers. I don't think this would work with a brush - it may apply a little heavy. It's really soft and creamy and I really like it.

It will be intersting to see how these fare in the hotter months - they might just slide right off but I hope not! I'll keep you posted.

Sorry for the horrid photo! I was super tired after a day of shopping but really wanted to show what it looked like on the cheeks!

Have you tried any of the topshop make up line? What's your favourite item?

Topshop make up is available from all big topshop stores and topshop online.

Top 5 Spring Everyday Lipsticks

L-R MAC Creme Cup, Chanel Boy, Revlon Sweet Tart,
Topshop Whimsical, Rimmel Kate Moss 101

L-R MAC Creme Cup, Chanel Boy, Revlon Sweet Tart, Topshop Whimsical, Rimmel Kate Moss 101
Spring has to arrive soon! I am sitting here in a bobble hat - inside! The weather has been so cold recently and I just can't stand it anymore! By thinking about favourite Spring lipsticks maybe we can trick ourselves into thinking it's sunny? Well it's worth a try..

I'm a bit of a lipstick fiend, I am always trying out new brands, formulas and colours - happy lips, sad bank balance.
In my head every time Spring come round I imagine myself floating about in pretty dresses with perfect hair, a tinted moisturiser and a pretty pink lip.
Top-Bottom: MAC Creme Cup, Chanel Boy, Revlon
Sweet Tart, Topshop Whimsical, Rimmel
Kate Moss 101
This NEVER happens. (1) I don't like my legs when they are free of black tights so light floaty dresses are a no no. (2) my hair rarely looks perfect and when it does it's only ever at night - why is that?! (3) Due to my acne scarring I always wear full coverage make up, even on roasting hot days (or day if you live in Scotland).
So the only thing I can really achieve is the pretty pink lip. I'm not a lipgloss girl at all! Having hair down to your belly button tends to mean just by thinking lipgloss you get about 100 hours stuck on your face - nice. (Saying that I do have my eye on the Clarins Instant Light Natural Lip Perfector..).
I do like a Spring lipstick though so these are my top 5!
First up, a veritable classic - Mac Creme Cup. If you don't have this buy it! It's the best everyday shade ever! You can see how much I have used it in the main picture. Its a blue toned, light pink. If you apply too much it can look a little, what I like to call, Drag Queen so be careful! It's cremesheen so super easy to just whack on. Brilliant - I love.
Next up my super posh lipstick Chanel Boy, I feel like a proper grown up when I use this. It's super sheer so I kind of use this in place of a lipgloss if I want something a bit lighter. It's a light pink colour, and again don't build it up too much as it goes a bit strange colour-wise if you do. This is very luxurious so if your looking to treat yourself this could be the one! It also smells INCREDIBLE, all Chanel beauty products do! Damn you Chanel luring me in with your beautiful packaging and amazing smells!!
Next up the super affordable but amazing quality of the Revlon Lip Butters. My favourite is Sweet Tart but I also have my eye on Tutti-Frutti - I do love orange lips in Summer! The product is really creamy and glides on smoothly but still has incredible pigmentation, if you don't have one of these you should seriously consider picking one up! They are a bargain at under a tenner!
I have loved Topshop Whimsical for a long time. A light fluorescenty-orangey-coral (my descriptions are just getting better and better!). I went through a stage of wearing it everyday last Summer. I think it's a bit different from pink which is nice and is super easy to apply (as are all Topshop lipsticks!), I love the formula! It smells amazing too! I'm a bit funny about smells, if I don't like a smell I can't have it anywhere near me, especially right under my nose! This smells lovely though! If someone asks me to recommend a good lipstick I always say this!
Last but not least the newest off all these Rimmel Kate Moss lipstick from the new Matte collection in shade 101. I like matte lips - I think they can look really chic if worn correctly. Its a light pink with a slight blue tone, it's really flattering on me and looks really sharp paired with lip liner. It's the cheapest of all three but I love it just as much!

Creme Cup (I call this
picture 'Jowls')
Boy (This one is called
'One fat cheek')
Sweet Tart (This is called
'Hey Meg, where's your
forehead?!)

Whimsical (This is one
is called 'One fat cheek:
The Sequal)
101 (I named this merely
NOSE.)
Here's some truly awful pictures of me. Look at the last one - my nose is bigger than the moon urgh. I was super tired and couldn't be bothered moving to a place with good lighting.
I thought it was important to show what each looked like on me though but I do apologise for ugly mug!!

What lip products are you loving at the moment? Do you give pictures of yourself titles as well or is that just me?

Top 5 Spring Nail Polishes

L-R: Essie Absolutely Shore, Barry M Gelly Hi-Shine Grapefruit, Essie Mint Candy Apple, Barry M Berry I/C, Topshop Pool Party

I love that day when you wake up and have that feeling that Spring has sprung! Well I got that feeling today and to celebrate decided to blog about my favourite Spring nail polishes!

Essie Absolutely Shore. Fairly new to my nail polish stocks but already well loved. A white based green, super simple and easy to wear, only available online so has the poopy essie brush so you need to be a bit more precise when applying but it is so worth it!!
Barry M Gelly Hi-Shine Grapefruit. A bright pink that really does dry to a high shine finish. I have loved Barry M  for years and years so was excited when I saw this new range and went to boots straight away to buy one and this is what I chose. It has sat unloved for a couple of months but I have totally fallen back in love with this one. Brilliant colour, brilliant consistency, brilliant price! What more do you need?!
Essie Mint Candy Apple. How could I do a post on spring nail shades and not include Mint Candy Apple?! My all time favourite polish ever and a firm favourite in the blogoshpere, I just love it! It's available in boots and superdrug as well as online so I would say get it instore if you can to get the brilliant new brush! AMAZING shade all year round but in spring it just can't be topped. If this list had a winner this would be it!
Barry M Berry Ice Cream. Something a bit different, a pale lilac. I prefer this if I have a bit of a tan (living in Scotland it tends to be fake!) than when I'm pale as I feel it can wash me out a bit but when I'm tanned it's just beautiful. A simple purple that's cheap and cheerful - bloomin love it!!
Topshop Pool Party. I got this in a trio for Christmas a couple of years ago and I always forget about it by August and re-discover in about March. A turquoise bluey/greeny shade that's super wearable and easy to just throw on. Great consistency, considering it's a couple years old it really is as good as new! I always mean to pick up a couple more topshop nail polishes but never end up doing it but I think I'm gonna hop foot it over to the topshop website right now and order some more!!
What nail polishes do you like wearing in Spring?
